Samsung may follow Apple in mobile ad space
Samsung may be following Apple's iAd into the mobile ad space, a report claimed Friday. The electronics giant hasn't been specific with plans but could put ads through its phones and TVs once it finishes an app store for its platforms. It's speculated that Samsung might have to buy an online ad network but could start its own.
The approach shown by Forbes wouldn't directly challenge Apple, as iAd is exclusive to iPhone OS devices, but could give companies an incentive to opt for Samsung's devices if they believe more exposure and money are better. Samsung fares poorly in smartphones but is one of the largest TV and home electronics companies, giving any advertiser a strong incentive to do business.
Apple created iAd largely to temper Google, whose buyout of AdMob gives it the largest mobile advertising business in the world. Samsung could feel similar pressure from Google, as AdMob also targets the Android, Symbian and Windows Mobile platforms Samsung uses today.
